People ask us all the time which lights are best to use for our backdrop panels. The light that we sell the most is the Chauvet Pix ILS LED bar light. Here is why.
Don't all LED bar lights do the same thing? Well, actually, no. There are many differences, but we are focused on one line specifically for this blog entry. If you look within the specifications of each light, you will find a beam angle and a field angle listed. The beam angle is where most of the light output is focused, but there is also a field angle, which is the extra light that flows beyond the beam angle. If you shine any basic LED light against a wall, you will find a hotspot in the middle. That is the beam angle. The light surrounding that hotspot is the field angle. Hope that helps.
The Chauvet Pix ILS has a beam angle of 14 degrees, whereas the Chauvet T3BT has a beam angle of 53 degrees. The 14-degree light has a much more focused intensity of light where, whereas the T3BT has a much greater wash light ability. They both have their purposes, but for our panels, we want that very focused light so that it can reach as high on the panels as possible.
You must also be aware of model changes as each new model is released. Years ago, we sold the T3BT, which was a different model all the time because the beam angle was the same as the Pix light but a bit cheaper. But when the new model came out, they had changed the beam angle in production, which is why we now focus on the Chauvet Pix ILS.
Below is a quick chart to show some of the other bar lights on the market and their angles. I have also included MAP pricing (Minimum Advertised Pricing) so you can see what kind of a range there is. The other big part of this is light output for the $. That will be in another blog entry shortly.
Hope this helps. We are dealers for almost all brands of lights, so if there is something that you are interested in, please let us know. I'm sure we can work out some better pricing for you.
